Why Juice And Soda Are Bad For Your Kids' Teeth

Posted on 1/23/2023 by Dr. Darren Huddleston
Why Juice And Soda Are Bad For Your Kids' TeethA family dentist is crucial for your kids' dental health. However, you are also responsible for ensuring your children practice the right oral health habits. Otherwise, you will be spending a lot of time and money at the dentist's office. Most parents want to know if juices and sodas are bad for their children's teeth. It would help to know the impact sodas present on your teeth and gums.

Carbonated Soft Drinks

Sodas and other carbonated soft drinks are terrible for children's teeth especially when they are growing. Therefore, do not think that only sodas are bad for your child's teeth, as all carbonated drinks are awful for their oral health. These drinks contain copious amounts of sugar and acid. Both diet and regular carbonated drinks contain citric and phosphoric acids, which erode the tooth's enamel.

Saliva in the mouth creates a balanced environment which ensures teeth stay healthy. However, when kids drink sweet carbonated drinks, they create an acidic environment in the mouth, which increases enamel breakdown.

When enamel breaks down, your kids' teeth become more susceptible to decay because the enamel is weak. Sports drinks are also sugary and carbonated, making them bad for your kids.

Fruit Juice

Unfortunately, many people think that fruit juices are made from fruits. Though they may contain some vitamins and minerals, they also contain sugar and acid, like carbonated soft drinks. In fact, some juices are just as bad as soda for oral health.

Fruit juices erode the enamel and weaken it just like sodas do. Even if you take fruit juices with meals, they are still harmful. The effects might be milder, but the effect will be the same.

Fruit juices, sodas, or carbonated soft drinks are bad for your kids' teeth. Make a trip to our dental clinic to find out how you can keep your kids' teeth healthy and strong.
